How to Repair Garage Doors

Often times, you come across several problems with the garage doors, which look too hard to handle but in fact, they are very minor and can be perfected with a little knowledge and effort.  The garage doors are operated on spring tension and all of these garage doors have simple two sections: the garage door itself and the door opener.  In case, your garage door is not opening; it is blocked or you have any such issue, here is what you need to do for repairing garage doors.

Examining Garage Doors
If you examine the garage doors from the inside, you would see that there are some metal tracks. You need to check these metals tracks and examine the escalating brackets that whether they are properly fixed or loose. These brackets hold the metal tracks in position with the wall, which result in the opening and closing of garage doors. In case, they are not fixed properly, or they are loose, you need to tighten them then bolt up. From inside the garage, see if the garage doors have any dents. If there are present some dents and are minor, you can use a hammer or something else to reshape them. Otherwise, if things are out of your reach and the damages are severe, replacing them is the best idea.

Dealing With The Garage Doors Tracks
Clean both the vertical and the horizontal tracks of the garage doors and make sure they are leveled at a same height. If these tracks are not aligned perfectly, you can loosen the bolts and reshape their position. But do not completely unscrew the bolts. The horizontal tracks of garage doors are slightly leaning towards the inside of the garage door while the vertical tracks are completely straight. Lubricating these tracks with any lubricator or oil that is useful for garage doors is beneficial. It will result it a smooth opening and closing of the garage door and it will also prevent the garage doors from environmental factors.

Repairing And Replacing The Hardware of Garage Doors
Check other hardware of garage doors and make sure that all the screws and bolts are properly tightened. If anything is not working. For swing-up garage doors, check the plates and for roll-up garage doors, check hinges and replace if any of them is not in a proper functioning order.

Adjusting the Spring Tensions in Garage Doors
Besides, the swing-up garage doors have springs on each side which is hooked into holes. You can adjust the tension of the spring by moving it to next hole or taking it on the opposite site. However, you will find a pulley in roll up garage doors where each side of the spring is being controlled by the pulley. You can also adjust the spring tension here by pulling the cable (attached with the pulley) away from the plate above the door. Readjust it to your required tension and rejoin it with the hole by knotting the cable. Moreover, if roll-over garage doors have only one spring, do not try anything because its spring tension is extremely great and any mistake might result in an injury. In that case, you need a professional’s help.
