Maintaining a Rose Garden
A rose garden requires meticulous care and maintenance and it is very difficult to care for it if you do not have proper knowhow. Some tips and advice for maintaining rose gardens so that you will have blooming roses for several years, are given below.  
 
Fertilizing a Rose Garden
Organic fertilizers may be used for fertilizing a rose garden as they lead to a healthy growth of roses. A rose garden should be fertilized in spring when the roses start growing so that the blooming roses become healthier.  After that the fertilizer should be applied in midsummer. You should not fertilize the garden in fall as it will result in late growth of the roses.
Watering a Rose Garden
A rose garden has to be watered at least twice in a week and during the growing season, the roses should receive about one inch of water per week. The roses should be watered so that their soil is damp but is not wet and this process should be done slowly so that the soil of the rose beds is deeply soaked. It is also important that water your rose garden in the morning.  If you live in an area which does not receive a lot of rain, you should use an irrigation hose in your rose beds. However, you should not use a sprinkler system to water your rose garden. Organic mulch should be applied in the garden garden in early summer to keep the soil moist and cool.
Pruning in a Rose Garden
Pruning is very important for a healthy rose garden as it keeps the rose bushes from becoming tangled and allows air circulation for healthy growth of roses. Pruning of your rose garden should be done at least once in a year at the end of the winter season when the plants are dormant and are just beginning to grow. All dead and diseased branches of the rose bush or plant should be pruned at a 45 degree angle. Any suckers which are growing from the base and which suck the nutrients should also be pruned during the growth period of roses. After pruning, the rose bush may be trimmed so that it has the size and the shape you desire.
Winter Protection for a Rose Garden
A rose garden must be protected from the cold when winter comes to ensure that it remains healthy year after year. For that you should stop fertilizing after early falls so that the growth of the roses stops early and the plant will be dormant during winter. Plant cylinders must also be placed over plants during winter and should be taken of when winter passes. You may also spread bark or wood chip mulch on the ground around the rose plants in fall so that the ground does not keep freezing and thawing in the winter. Remove the mulch after winter has passed.
Management of Diseases and Pests in the Rose Garden
A rose garden in prone to being damaged by diseases and pests. A prevention plan along with immediate action at the sign disease will keep your rose garden disease and pest free. Keep your the garden very clean by regularly pruning and cleaning it. Also remove any petals and leaves that have fallen on the ground. Pests can be managed with sprays of water or pesticides.
