Easy Home Repairs You Can Do Yourself
You do not need to spend a lot on hiring a contractor for making minor home repairs. The home repairs can be done with some knowledge and the right tools. A leak in the Washing Machine
A leaky washing machine is one of the easiest home repairs. It should be fixed as soon as notice the leak otherwise there will be a flood of water in room. In most cases, the leak in due to a crack in the water hose. Check to see if there is any leak coming from a crack from a water hose that is at the back of the machine. If there is one, then buy a new hose. You can also install the new hose easily. All you have to do is unscrew and remove the hose previously attached and screw and attach the new hose.
Small Spots on the Wall
These are usually mold spots that can be taken care of easily. This is one of the household repairs that most homeowners do themselves as delaying the repair can lead to health problems. For fixing these mold spots and removing the fungi, make a mixture of 1 cup bleach with 1 gallon of water. Scrub the wall that has the spots with this mixture and then rinse it with clean water. Repaint the wall when the spots become dry. If there is major problem, then you should call an expert. Mildew-Resistant latex paint should be used to prevent the problem from occurring in the future.
A runny toilet
A runny toilet results in the wastage of many gallons of water. Thus, this is one of the home repairs that should be done as quickly as possible. To fix this problem, firstly lift the lid of the tank and look into it. If there is an overflow of water in the tube, then lower the tank’s water level by squeezing the adjustment clip and then sliding the float downwards. If this is not the cause of the problem, then put food color in the tank and wait for some time. Then take a look. If the color of the water has changed that the flapper has to be replaced as it is leaking. Turn off, the toilet’s water supply and remove the flapper by popping it with your hands. Pop in the new flapper in the same way.
Cracks forming in the driveway
Cracks in the driveway are among home repairs that take little time to do. If left unattended, the crack can grow bigger and cause more problems. Remove the debris from the crack and spray it with a water hose. Apply crack filler that is specially developed for asphalt and let it dry.
A dented wall
Home repairs like dented walls can be done cheaply by doing them yourself. However, a dent in the wall and other home repairs like this have to be attended to promptly to prevent the formation of large holes which require a lot of money to fix. It is very easy to fix these dents. You have to start by putting newspaper in the dent in such a way there is only a quarter inch gap. Fill this gap left with joint compound by using a putty knife. Use a blade to smooth it. Leave this compound to dry for a day and then paint over it.
These are the simple procedures to perform some home repairs yourself and save time and money. However, you should try to do everything yourself as some home repairs require expert knowledge and skills.
