| When getting fiberglass insulation, consider the r-value which measures how effective the insulation material is. Fiberglass insulation with a high r-value is better than one with a low r-value. However, different r-values are required for doors, walls and ceilings. |
 |
| Vapor barriers are another important factor in fiberglass insulation as they prevent water vapor in the air from leaving the room. You may add polyethylene as a vapor barrier to your fiberglass insulation. |

| Steps Involved in Fiberglass Insulation Installation |
 |
| Follow these steps to successfully install fiberglass insulation in your home: |
 |
- Gather all the tools, equipment and material you need. This will include a measuring tape, utility knife and a squeeze type stapler, a pole for putting the fiberglass insulation in hard to reach areas, boards for sitting and standing and a flash light or any other portable lighting source.
- Wear a shirt which has long sleeves to protect the skin of your arms. Also wear gloves, a face mask and protective goggles to protect your hands, lungs and eyes from irritation.
- Unfurl the fiberglass insulation or take a batt from the package and cut it with the utility knife so that it fits in the space. The material should be cut in such a way that it is a little longer than the space to be covered. Fiberglass insulation should never be compressed in a space as this can reduce its effectiveness.
- Place the fiberglass insulation between joists and rafters and staple it.
- Insulate around obstruction such as pipes by peeling the insulation material so that its thickness is reduced. Fit the back half behind the pipes and the front half in front of them.
- Trim the insulation material so that it can be fitted around electrical boxes and other objects that come in the way.
- If any gaps are left, stuff fiberglass insulation in them to prevent heat loss from there.
- Install the vapor barrier by placing polyethylene sheets on the walls with a 30cm of overlap. Staple it to the framing and cut around the windows or any other object using the utility knife. You can cut the polyethylene sheeting hanging from the ceiling after you have finished.
