How to Install Patio Pavers
Installing patio pavers improves the look of your house. Moreover, there is a wide range of patio pavers available which you choose from. However, homeowners mostly use concrete and brick patio pavers in their homes. For installing patio pavers, you will need a shovel, saw, axe, wheelbarrow, string, splitter, spray paint and safety glasses.
1-Getting Started
Some planning and preparation is needed before starting the procedure. Select the materials for patio pavers and buy them from a hardware store. After buying the materials and tools, plan the layout for your patio and get it drawn to scale. You will also need to clean, weed and level the area you have selected for the patio paver. Create an outline around the area after cleaning it to help in measuring it and separating it from the surrounding area. After that, create a slope to direct the flow of water to a certain place. Measure the area to find out how much paver base material you will need. You should buy a little extra material so that you can cut the patio pavers to fit them in oddly-shaped places.

2-Digging the Ground
Find out how deep you have to dig and mark the place by putting marked stakes and connecting them using a string. This will make leveling easier. Dig the ground and compress the soil using a compacting machine or a hand tamp.

3-Prepare the Ground
Lay out a layer of base material on the excavated area. You can use crushed stones or sharp gravel for the base. Stones are easily compressed when pressure is applied on them. You should spread two to three layers of base material and perform compaction between each layer with a compaction machine. This will make the patio pavers more durable.

4-Install Edging Restraints
You need to put edging restraints around the boundary to make sure that your patio pavers stay in place otherwise all your efforts will be ruined. Edging restraints are available in plastic, aluminum, wood and steel.

5-Spread Sand Over the Base
After you are sure that the patio pavers will not move, spread sand over the base material in 1 to 1.5 inch thick layers. Compact the sand firmly after spreading it.

6-Laying Patio Pavers
Lay the patio pavers on top of the sand according to the design you have made. Cut patio pavers using a saw or a chisel where needed. You should protect your eyes by wearing protective goggles during this stage. Fill the space between pavers by using sand.
The process is a little different for concrete patio pavers. For installing patio pavers made of cement, you need to dig 12 inches outside the boundary and fill the area with crushed stone to a thickness of five inches.
