| 1-Preparing the Ground |
| First of all, you need to prepare the ground where you are going to lay the paving stones. Dig the ground down to about 2 inches. You have to dig an extra four inches in the parking area. Create a base by putting crushed rocks in the parking area you have dug. Put away the earth you have removed. You may use it somewhere else or get it removed professionally. To ensure sufficient drainage of water, you have to build the base with a slope in the centre of the area you have excavated. |
| 2-Laying The Paving Stones |
| You will be laying the paving stones after the ground has been prepared. However, you must make a comprehensive plan before laying the paving stones. This is good for avoiding buying too many or too few individual paving stones and for mapping slabs. Creating a plan is not very important if the area is small. |
| Cover the excavated area to a depth of one inch with sand. Use the lumber to smooth it out and to tamp it down so that you have a strong base for the paving stones. After that, Lay the paving stones on the base you have created and use the pieces of wood between the slabs. |
| 3-Setting The Paving Stones in Place |
| After you have laid the paving stone, you have to set them in place. For this you have to, mix together concrete and sand and water in the ratio 1:4 to create a thick mortar. Remove the paving stones put in the corners and pour the mortar and spread it so that it is 1.5 to 2 inches thick on the base. Put the paving stones back in their place after spreading the mortar. |
| Put small wooden blocks on the paving stones and tap them with a mallet. Where necessary, put spirit level and tap the paving the paving stones to create a level surface. Remove the spacers and tap more stones. Give two days for the paving stones to set. Do not walk in the area during this time. |
| |
| 4-Filling The Space Between Paving Stones |
| After two days, when the paving stones are set, fill the spaces between the stones with sand. You may also make a mixture of sand and cement to pour in the spaces. This is a more long-lasting solution. Spray water in the area so that the cement gets wet and everything is set firmly. Give two days for the paving stones to be set firmly. |
| After two days, you will have a nice driveway or patio with paving stones. |
