- Firstly read the manufacturer’s instructions for the log siding carefully and install the corner logs accordingly. If you are installing the corner logs next to the ceiling or the floor, then leave proper space between the pieces and the surface. Use 3-inch screws to secure the logs to the sheeting or studs.
- The next step in installing log siding is to cut the foundation log in such a way that it fits between the corner logs. This log has to be installed along the bottom of the wall and has to be level as well. Use shims to keep it level. Ensure that the log’s tongue and its groove have the same length as the top. Place 3-inch screws every 24 inches or as per the manufacturer’s instructions to secure the log to the wall. If possible, drive screws through the studs.
- Prepare the next log for the log siding and put it on top of the foundation log you have installed. Make sure that it fits snugly into the space by tapping the tongue and the groove with a hammer and a wooden block. Put a 2.5 inch nail on both the ends of the log with the help of a nail gun or a hammer. Put the nails in such a way that the next log hides the nail heads. Insert nails in the studs if possible.
- Add more logs in the same way to complete the log siding. Cut the top log with a table saw to fit in the space if needed.
- If the logs do not fill up the entire wall, then cut them so that their seams stagger. You can create a great look with a random pattern. Put wood putty in the screw holes of the corner and foundation logs of the log siding. Continue to install log siding on the next wall in the same way.
